::: An Italian miracle? FAIRS of Federica Fiorellini
-----------------------------------------------------------
Expectations met
and exceeded
for the debut
of MADE Expo,
one of the most
long awaited fairs
this year. In Italy
and abroad ...
The expectations for the debut
of MADE Expo - Milano Architettura
Design Edilizia, the
fair dedicated to the world of architecture
and building held in
Milan, 5th-9th February 2008 - have
all been met and even exceeded.
An international showcase,
amplifier of messages, workshop
of analysis and in-depth looks at
markets and technologies. All this
was MADE Expo, with 170,779 visitors
(154,754 Italians and 16,025
foreigners).
The cream of the building industry
proposed a global offer for
this market: from design to construction,
services to technological
solutions, materials and finishes.
While still managing to respect
the specific nature of each segment.
A fair that was immediately
appreciated by the market (designers
and specialists).
Merit for the success of MADE Expo
goes, first and foremost, to the
1,914 exhibitors, who welcomed
the challenge of this first edition
with great enthusiasm. A fair that's
quite different from previous events
for the building industry and hosted
in a new centre with outstanding
structures and well connected to
the European market, said Giulio
Cesare Alberghini, Managing Director
of MADE Eventi. What's
more, the 1625 Italian firms also
had the chance to face an international
market, thus presenting the
very best of the Italian building industry.
The efforts made in organising
the fair, stresses an enthusiastic
Libero Ravaioli, President of
Uncsaal, the Italian association
that promoted the event together with Federlegno-Arredo at
Made Expo, have been truly
awarded by the flow of top quality
operators, architects and design engineers,
as well as specialists, who
appreciated the range of goods
covered and the exhibition solutions.
But most of all, they really
recognised that Milan and the new
exhibition centre in Rho now plays
an important role as the catalyst of
excellence.
Particularly well received was the
"Skin - Architectural Surfaces" show,
held at the same time as the main
fair. A look at the world's different
cultures, seen through the materials
and technological solutions
used for surfaces, permanently
caught between the need for homologation
and local diversity.
Skin, as in the skin of a building,
how each architectural surface is
interpreted by the different cultures
around the world. An amazing variety of different styles dictated
by local conditions and materials,
all with an exclusive design.
Thanks to the contributions
by 70 firms, Skin showcased their
various building materials and the
most innovative, new generation
examples of architecture, highlighting
the benefits of each
process and the relative technological
details. The chance for visitors
to admire the thousands of different
possible approaches.
The conferences, meetings and
seminars were all well attended
by an interested public, making
MADE Expo not just an important
event in terms of architecture and
building materials and technologies,
but also a cultural event and
a forum for debating the role of
architecture and the technical solutions
for applying the various
construction systems.
Our thanks, then, to the organisers,
who have kept their promises (something
quite rare these days)
::: THE OPINION OF ANDREA NEGRI,
PRESIDENT OF MADE EVENTI
Milan - the scene of urban renewal and a leading figure
in the global economy - contributed greatly to making
this exhibition an international showcase and an important
event not just for the world of building, but also for
design and architecture.
What mark should we give this fair? Definitely 10/10.
We hoped to attract 150,000 visitors: we easily exceeded
this figure. There were
so many visitors and all
the conferences were
packed out.
Plus exhibitors also saw
their order books swell.
Every two years? A
good idea: we'l l consider
it in 2010.

::: THE OPINION OF CARLO COMANI,
PRESIDENT OF THE WOODEN FLOORING
GROUP AT EDILEGNO-FEDERLEGNO/ARREDO
We came to Milan, the world capital of design, because
we wanted a more international marketplace and a larger
showcase. We met our goal: there were so many visitors
and the city proved to be up to the mark. The organisation
was faultless.
This fair kept all its promises: a year ago it was hard to
believe that the best of the Italian building industry
could be shown off in such an orderly fashion. Visitors
needed clarity, ordered and rational sectors: Made Expo
hit the bulls-eye.
My dream? A single huge European fair for the building
industry. Well organised
and capable
of hosting all
that has to do
with interiors:
from parquet to
carpets, tiles to
stone, doors to
windows.
