::: Domotex 2009: an interesting calendar of events

The Hannover
Show offers
a rich display
and many events
designed
for architects
and craftsmen.
In addition to showcasing the latest
trends in manually and mechanically
produced carpets,
the next edition of the Domotex
Show to be held in Hannover from
January 17 to 20, 2009, will feature
various appointments dedicated
to non-textile flooring for industry,
architects, and craftsmen.
Of the approximately 1350 exhibitors
on
hand, as many
as 415 work
with wood parquet
and flooring
in laminate,
natural stone,
tiles and
ceramics, and
other aspects
regarding use,
laying and
maintenance.
For operators
in the sector
above, we indicate
the Contractworld
event to be divided
this year
as follows: contractworld.congress (conferences
and forums dedicated to the office, the
hotel, the sales outlet, and building
renovation / conversion); contractworld.exhibition (an exhibition
of innovative flooring and furnishing
products); and contractcontractworld.award (an international
prize for the architecture
and design of innovative interiors).
At contractworld.congress, architects
and interior designers of
worldwide renown will talk about
the latest developments regarding
offices, hotels, and sales outlets
while dedicating their attention especially
to one topic of pressing
current importance: building renovation/
conversion. For the first
time in the sector, the word will
be given also to authorities from
different sectors: work psychologists,
communication experts,
and hotel managers in order to
give those present a better idea of
the new contexts in which the
needs of modern architecture are
expressed.
::: Appointment for craftsmanship
Numerous events and activities
have been scheduled also for layers
of wood parquet and flooring,
interior decorators and designers, and craftsmen and installers
of all kinds in
order to complete the
Show’s already abundant
offer of information
with precious
practical hints entitled:
“Forum on handicrafts”,
“Safe craftsmanship”,
“European Team Laying
Contest”.
The Forum on handicrafts
to be held Saturday,
Sunday, and Monday
- in rotation and at
different hours - will
deal with the following
topics:
• New floor foundations
in concrete and
the effects of their
use for floor layers;
• Dangerously clean?
What risks are posed
by the surface coatings
applied by the
manufacturer to resilient
floors?
• Wood floors with a future.
Facing terraces
with planking: profitable
seasonal work
for parquet layers.
Considering the success
of the Show’s
first edition, the Safe
craftsmanship forum
will keep the spotlight
focused on floor installers’
safety and
health, with particular
attention on the knees
of layers of wood parquet
and flooring. At
the practical level, a
demonstration will be provided to show that
even the most resilient
and textile
floors can be laid
while standing, in this
way defending a part
of the professional
layer’s body normally
subjected to heavy
stress during the job.
The methods and materials
considered to
provide the best protection
against injury
at the worksite by the
Welfare authorities
will also be proposed,
and between one live
demonstration and another,
two trainers
will illustrate specific
physical fitness training
techniques for
floor installers.
As regards the European
Team Laying Contest,
the competing
teams will be required
to lay moquette, vinyl
tiles, and squares of
moquette, linoleum and
laminate. For the spectators,
the competition
will offer both amusing
entertainment and the
chance to “steal” precious
laying “hints”
from the pros that will
certainly help them in
their daily work. This sports/
handicraft competition
will begin at
11.00 on Saturday, January
17, and the winners
will be awarded on
Tuesday, January 20.
