Domotex

to make
your head spin.
2011 is about
to take off.
How to discover the latest
trends and launch business
on the international market?
Easy, in just two words: Domotex
and BAU. Two important
events for the global market. Especially
now, at the beginning of
2011, by putting the last two
years of economic stagnation behind
us. The message is clear:
people are talking about a relaunch,
a pick-up in business and
new investments. Thanks also to
the dynamics of innovation. The
many thousands of exhibitors at
these fairs prove it: a taste of the
novelties awaiting us in terms of
products, decorations, colours,
materials and models.
::: DOMOTEX LOVES EUROPE
1,350 exhibitors, 87 countries,
40,000 professionals. These are
the figures for Domotex, the
world’s number one annual trade
fair when it comes to carpets and
floor coverings. For four days (15-18 January), the exhibition centre in Hannover, Germany, was the
scene of meetings, negotiations
and an exchange of ideas. Manufacturers,
dealers, experts in the
field, decorators, designers and
architects were the stars. And, of
course, the products. Pavilions 7-8-9 were dedicated to parquet
(plus resilient materials and laminates)
and the laying of surfaces.
There Italian and European producers
flew the flag of quality.
Indeed, Europe continues to be a
point of reference for the market
when it comes to quality, despite
the strong expansion of Asiatic
trade. The trend now is to combine
ethnic products from Africa,
South America and South Asia
with the special features of Western
design and lifestyle.
The most appreciated surfaces included
gloss and ultra matt surface
finishes in colours ranging from
blue to white, plus various shades
of grey. Then there was the antique
vintage look in various tones of
brown. The international market greatly admires our creations.
Equally important were the machines
and products for the machining,
laying and treatment of
wooden flooring. “Domotex is a
global platform,” commented
Stephan Ph. Kühne, one of the directors
of Deutsche Messe. “With
such an exceptional number of offers,
it has a great role as a showcase.
We estimate that 60% of the
visitors came from East Europe and
from North and South America. This
confirms the fact that Domotex is a
unique event for the world, uniting
the global industry and highlighting
all the latest market trends.”
::: WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN 2012
If the spotlight was on carpets and
floor coverings during Domotex
2011, the 2012 edition will focus on
laminates, wooden flooring and
parquet. In fact, the next edition
will see the introduction of a dedicated
area featuring a specific
goods category, a different one to
be chosen each year. Domotex
2012 will be dedicated to wood and
laminates. This area, to be called
the Woodflooring Summit, will
have stands and small zones dedicated
to events, forums and conferences
where exhibitors can interact
with visitors, present their
products and clinch deals. “The
idea,” said Stephan Ph. Kühne, “is
to put the emphasis on a selected
product category in each edition.
That way we can channel demand
and offer easier access to the supply
part of the equation.” The Woodflooring
Summit has been developed
with the assistance of trade
associations such as EPLF (European European
Producers of Laminate
Flooring), as well as
leading firms in this sector.
:::BAU: A BOOM IN ATTENDANCE
Despite overlapping Domotex
for a couple of days (17-18 January), BAU enjoyed a
high attendance rate. During
the six days of this fair
(17-22 January) in the Munich
exhibition centre, this fair dedicated
to architecture, materials
and systems saw roughly 1,900 exhibitors
from over 40 countries and
more than 210,000 visitors from
roughly 150 different countries.
This event, held every two years,
has the merit of being the only appointment
in the world that unites
all the market leaders to provide a
complete and exhaustive picture of
the sector. Covering 180,000 square
metres, BAU presented the very latest
in industrial, commercial and
residential building, plus interior
design, for both new constructions
and renovations. Over 38,000 designers
meant that this year’s edition
is the largest specialised fair
for architects and engineers. The
goods categories - split into building
materials, production sectors
and themes - also included wooden
flooring and laying products.
Current topics with great future
potential - such as sustainable
building - played a central role in
all areas of the fair. There were also
a series of collateral events
during the fair, including seminars
on specific subjects, competitions,
awards and forums, such as
those on energy efficiency and on
sustainable building.
