Parquet can still be a winner: correct
information is required
This year as well we were present at the annual FEP meeting
(Federation of European Parquet Producers), a meeting among
the operators in the sector (producers, suppliers, trade associations
and the press) that attempts to provide a picture of the performance
and current trends in the market. Compared to 2012, the overall consumption of wood floors in Europe declined last year by 2.60%, whereas total production in Fep territory dropped by 1.81%
Starting with consumption, Germany, France, and Italy occupy
the winners’ stand with their 23.91%, 14.3% and 9.39% holdings
of the market. In terms of production, Poland takes the pole position, producing nearly 20% (19.81) of the total volume, and is followed
by Germany (15.48%), Sweden (13.10%) and Austria (12.35%).
Among the other interesting data that help us understand how
this market of ours is going, two other values are worth mentioning:
the unchallenged dominion of multilayer parquet, accounting for 78%
of total sales, and the decrease in the consumption of tropical wood
– an inversion of the trend observed in recent years. If hope can be found in the fact that parquet is still the floor that most consumers desire, on one hand, it‘s also true that we need to provide correct information in regard on the other. In the words of our dear friend Carlo Comani during an interview on his presentation regarding ceramic-effect wood at the FEP meeting, ”wherever timely and correct information is present,
parquet can only emerge victorious”.
We will never tire of providing detailed, correct and timely communication because in this period of crisis, the parquet market must be supported primarily by a strong policy of incentives, it’s true,
but also by lots of good information.
