AHEC in India

The first edition of the Delhiwood Show held at New Delhi’s Pragati Maidan exhibition center from February 14 - 17 was the ideal way for the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) to make contact with operators in the Northern India wood market and launch a handy new technical publication entitled “American hardwoods and their suitability for the Indian market” developed through collaboration with Bangalore’s IPIRTI (Indian Plywood Industries Research & Training Institute) research institute.
For the occasion, AHEC released the latest and most encouraging data regarding exports of American hardwoods to India: a value of 6.2 million dollars was reached in 2008, a staggering 76.3% increase over the year before.
And that’s not all. In collaboration with the Institute of Indian architect – AHEC organized a conference on February 16 entitled “Wood in Architecture” at New Delhi’s Taj Mahal Hotel that was attended by over 249 architects.

New export manager at ROVEA

Industrie Chimiche Rovea is deeply convinced that an industrious presence on foreign markets is essential for his growth.
Under this perspective Rovea has appointed Alessandro Stradiotto (photo) as export manager for his brand of chemical products for parquet called Parquetone.
Mister Stradiotto has a deep knowledge of the European wooden floors market, and his more than 10 years experience, together with the well known quality of Parquetone products, have already borne excellent results although the cooperation started only 4 month ago.

Curved parquet wins the RED DOT DESIGN AWARD 2009

The impression is that of walking into a house in the woods, naturalness and even a “fairytale” atmosphere. Waldilla parquet has been laid in this room, by the German firm (www.waldilla.eu), winner of the Red Dot Design Award 2009.
Parquet with irregular-shaped planks that follow the grain of the wood, resulting in non geometric patterns. Each room is uniquely designed thanks to a special software application, ensuring that the pattern fits the entire surface.

MAPEI buys out BETONTECHNIK

Mapei, the world leader in construction products, continues to grow thanks to its acquisition of the Austrian Betontechnik, leader in the field of concrete additives.
“This acquisition” says Giorgio Squinzi, Sole Director and CEO of the Mapei S.p.A. Group “is aimed not just at an increase in Mapei’s activities, but also at the chance to provide extra stimulus for the expansion of Betontechnik on the international market.
Despite the delicacy of the current economic situation, Mapei continues to invest with courage and vision, focusing on companies that make excellence their strong point.”
Thanks to this operation, the Mapei Group now has 56 production sites around the world.
Set up in 2001, Betontechnik has expanded rapidly, reaching total turnover of over 20 million Euros in 2008 and becoming a leader in the field of concrete admixtures in Austria. Following the acquisition, the Betontechnik headquarters in Langenwang (Austria) will become the Mapei Group’s centre of excellence for concrete and concrete additives. Turnover is expected to be boosted thanks to intensified expansion into new geographical areas. In other words, Betontechnik’s goal is to become a global operator in its sector, thanks to the internatonal presence of the Mapei Group.
