Strange but true

At first glance, it looks like this little villa in Terfens, Austria, was hit by a tornado.
Instead, it’s just an amazing tourist attraction dreamed up by Architects Irek Glowacki and Marek Rozhanski.
Every single thing in the house has been installed upside- down, from the cars in the garage to the food in the fridge.

BRAZIL: deforestation in Amazon at record low

Deforestation in the Amazon is at its lowest rate since data on the matter began, according to a study from Brazil's National Institute for Space Research reported by The Guardian.
Using satellite imagery, the institute reported that 1.6 million acres of forest was cut down in the 12 months prior to July 31, 2011, making it the lowest such reading since measurements began in 1988. According to these numbers, since peaking in 2004, deforestation in the Amazon, the world's largest rainforest, has declined 75 percent. "This reduction is impressive; it is the result of changes in society, but it also stems from the political decision to inspect, as well as from punitive action by government agencies," said Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff, who recently came under fire for allegedly weakening Brazil's forest-protection laws and pardoning illegal deforesters.
Advancing forest management technology and economic factors were credited for the decline in deforestation. "The rise in the value of the Brazilian currency and the fall of soya and beef prices in the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis eroded the incentive for land clearance for agricultural exports," The Guardian wrote. In addition, the Brazilian government launched a vast anti-crime operation in the Amazon.

Only certified wood from Liberia and the Central African Republic

The European Parliament has ratified the agreements reached between the European Union and governments of the Central African Republic and Liberia for the protection of the forests in both African nations. In particular, the text approved obliges EU member nations and Liberia to sell only products (from timber to furniture) made of certified wood. As emphasized by the proposer of the bill, Austrian European Parliamentarian Elisabeth Kostinger, these agreements represent important steps in both promoting sustainable forestry and sale of timber and increasing public awareness. So far, six other nations have already signed this type of partnership with the European Union (Cameroun, the Central African Republic, Ghana, Indonesia, Liberia and the Republic of the Congo-Brazzaville). Agreements with Ghana and Cameroun have also been ratified by both parties, while negotiations are currently in progress with another four nations: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Malaysia, and Vietnam.

New look for DOMOTEX

“The new purple brand color and the new-look logo give Domotex a modern and dynamic corporate image”, says Susanne Klaproth, Project Manager of Domotex at Deutsche Messe. “The new look will help us strengthen the international reputation already enjoyed by Domotex as a center of competence and a global platform as it emphasizes the role of design and creativity within the global carpet and floor covering industry. Domotex offers an abundance of product colors, materials and designs. The focus on design, which is so important to this sector, is now also reflected in our Domotex branding”.
The new color associated with Domotex - a strong, vibrant purple - appears in the logo as well as in all advertising and the Domotex website, and evokes a modern and stylish image. Klaproth argues: "Purple symbolizes creativity and personality, is uplifting, inspiring and confident. In other words, it is the perfect choice of color for a trade fair known worldwide as the most important event for carpets and floor coverings."
Domotex will also be launching a new campaign in 2012. The core idea behind the campaign is to show how floors can create an ambience using specific room settings. This is realized in an advertisement showing an open-plan loft in which the floor is the dominant design element, providing the room with a creative touch and an extremely individual flair.
